Cream of the Crop

Between 25 and 28 January 2007, 4 graduation ceremonies were held in Hong Kong in conjunction with our institutional partners, namely Hong Kong University SPACE, City University SCOPE and the Community College of City University Hong Kong respectively.

A combination of 500 undergraduate and postgraduate students were conferred by the Principal & Vice- Chancellor. Their awards specialised in Marketing Management with Business Studies, Accounting, Financial Services, Biological Sciences and Administrative & Information Management.

Among them, the BA (Hons) Marketing Management with Business Studies programme was of particular significance as it was the first time this full-time programme has been offered by the University in Hong Kong. Of the 42 graduates from the programme, the 1st class Honours and Class Medal went to Ms Charity Cheung.

Unlike most of her classmates who are working in the advertising or public relations industries, Charity is currently working as a researcher for a renowned market research firm. She planned her career goal early on and was determined to enter the research profession. Although there was a heavy workload on the course, and classes were intense, the overall experience was highly inspiring and not only provided her the platform on acquiring academic knowledge but also offered Charity the opportunity to build on her strengths.

The award of Class Medal contributes significantly towards creating a very strong sense of success and achievement.  Charity stated that the “environment and atmosphere encouraged and enabled her to openly express her opinions confidently”. Charity favours the very marketing-focused approach which the programme had to offer, along with the global scope it provides when compared to other competing marketing undergraduate programmes.

In the future, Charity would like to further her studies and is considering some financial-focused programmes to broaden her business sense. Longer term, Charity would like to start up her own consultancy firm. We wish Charity all the best with her career and look forward to celebrating the opening of her firm in the near future!
